Father’s Day is June 15. Doesn’t Dad deserve something special? How about a new hat, belt buckle or shirt, so he’s looking good at that first barbecue? Let him relax in the hammock with a cool beverage, thanks to a Hydro Flask insulated bottle – there’s a style of Hydro Flask to match any dad, from athlete, sportsman to wine connoisseur. Keep Dad’s Best Friend safe in the boat or at the shore with a dog life vest. Help him with the chores with new gloves or safety glasses. Enjoy the birds with seed and bird feeders. There’s something for every Dad at Rainbow!

Spring is a lovely season but it is also the season for allergies – for both two-legged and four-legged. If you have noticed your dog or cat scratching often, rubbing their eyes with their paws or on the carpet, or licking their feet, your pet might have seasonal allergies! Dogs and cats can be allergic to pollen, mold and mildew, and dust mites along with fleas. Dogs who love to run through the tall grass often come out covered in pollen and stickers. There are some antihistamines that are safe for dogs in the correct dose (always check with your veterinarian as pets can be more sensitive to some medications than humans). There are many safe over-the-counter options that can help, too, such as special shampoos, supplements and food. A weekly bath with oatmeal or hypoallergenic shampoo, to remove the irritants from your pet’s fur, can help a lot. You can also try food or treats that are high in Omega 3 Fatty Acids and/or Beta-Carotene. Both of these can reduce inflammation and assist your pet’s immune response.
A few other thing you can do to help your itchy pet:
- Clean paws after walk to remove allergens
- Vacuum frequently to reduce exposure to dust mites and other indoor allergens
- Wash bedding regularly as the allergens can collect in dog beds
- Limit outdoor time during high pollen hours – Early mornings and evenings tend to have the highest pollen counts
If you are concerned about food allergies for your pets, consider trying a limited ingredient food. Limited ingredient dog food is often chosen to help dogs with food sensitivities or allergies, making it easier to identify and avoid problematic ingredients. By using fewer, simpler ingredients, it can simplify the diet and minimize potential triggers. This can lead to improved digestion, reduced skin issues, and overall better health for dogs.
You will find a big selection of pet food and supplements at your local Rainbow store. Just ask one of the friendly staff members!
