Hot Fun in the Summer Time!

Summer is officially here. What are you doing with the long days? It’s the perfect time to get outdoors with your favorite pup or kitty, whether is is lounging in the hammock or hiking at the lake. Stay safe while having fun in the sun, though. Independence Day is coming up and we all know that July 5th is the busiest day for animal shelters of the whole year. More dogs (and cats) are lost on the Fourth of July holiday than any other day of the year. Plan ahead for your pet’s safety during that celebrations. Prepare a quiet, secure place for your dog to hang out during the fireworks. If your dog is very frightened, your veterinarian can provide you with a calming prescription to give beforehand. There are also over-the-counter calming aids – just ask one of the helpful staff at Rainbow to direct you. Some dogs benefit from calming compression vests, and you will want to have complete identification on your dog’s collar (custom tags are available at Rainbow), and a microchip that is up-to-date with your contact information. Being prepared is half the battle!

Happy Independence Day

Summer is Fair and Show season! Rainbow supports local youth in agriculture by offering a discount on feed and livestock supplies, hosting educational seminars on raising and showing market animals and by being a buyer at the local fairs. Many of Rainbow’s staff are former 4H and FFA showmen themselves, and can answer your questions about caring for and feeding show animals. Rainbow also carries “Whites” – the official show uniform.

Ever wonder if you can clicker train your cat? It can be done! Clicker training is a way to encourage a behavior by having your pet associate the click of the clicker with a reward. Check out this how-to video courtesy of Jackson Galaxy.

Trivia Time! All correct answers are entered into a random drawing for a $15.00 Rainbow Coupon, good on any purchase at all Rainbow stores.
