Rainbow Wags June 2017

travel with your petsSummer is officially here and a lot of us are hitting the road with our pets. Whether it’s just a few a few days away or a cross-country road trip, being prepared can make traveling with your pet a joy instead of a disaster. There are a few obviously needed items such as water and bowls, and a supply of your pet’s regular food, a leash and a bed, but also don’t forget to pack any medication your dog takes, or might need in an emergency. A crate or collapsible pen can keep your pet safe and contained in hotels or campgrounds, and a favorite chew or toy will help your pet feel at home no matter where you are. Make sure your pet is current on his vaccinations, and carry the paperwork. Most importantly, have identification including a sturdy collar with tags that have your contact information, and get your pet microchipped – don’t forget to update your information with the microchip company! Even if your dog does not wander, emergency situations such as a car accident can leave your dog at the mercy of whoever might find her! But don’t worry – you can find everything you need to make your vacation dog friendly at Rainbow Ag! From crates to clean-up bags, Rainbow has it all – you can even get custom-made pet tags (consider putting your cell phone number on the tag – it does no good for someone to be calling your home phone if you are away!) and at the Saturday VIP Community Vet Clinics, microchipping is only $19.00 and your dog is registered for life. VIP Vet Clinics are every Saturday, from 12:30 PM to 2:00PM at the Lakeport Rainbow store, and from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM at the Ukiah store. Stop by Rainbow before you load up, for all of your pet’s vacation needs!

volunteer veterinarians at June Big FixFIX Lake County and Orphan Dog Rescue report a fantastic success of the June BIG FIX event! Over 60 family pets were spayed or neutered during a two-day marathon supported by volunteers, veterinarians, veterinary students and members of the public. Read all about it, view the photos, and check out the video linked at the end of the post! A huge thank you to everyone who made this happen!

pet safety for the FourthIndependence Day is coming right up – July 4th! While the two-legged members of the family might be looking forward to apple pie and hot dogs, our furry family members are often not so fond of the Fourth of July, especially the fireworks. July 5th is the most busy day at animal shelters all over the country! Make sure your pets are safe and secure, and have a fun Fourth of July!

The veterinarians from Middletown Animal Hospital warn that they have been seeing many cases of Parvo lately. Learn more about this deadly disease, and how to prevent it, at MAH’s Facebook Page.

This season also has an abundance of fleas and ticks! Protect your pets from these nasty little buggers and save some cash, with the subscriber coupon for SpectraSure Plus – Only $19.99 with coupon! (Regular price is $29.99.) Rainbow got a deal on this topical “drop on” and we’re passing the savings on to our loyal subscribers! Stock up now!

Well, Ms Trivia is also on the road this month (don’t worry, the dogs are going along!) so the Wags Trivia Contest will return in July. May winner is Jessy Holliday, and the answer was, 4H and FFA members are getting ready for Fairs and Shows!

Enjoy your summer!
