Rainbow Wags February 2020

$5 dog was token with this month's coupon

February is a lot of things, besides the shortest month of the year! First, February is Spay Neuter Awareness Month and February 25 is World Spay Day! Since the fires, donations have been spread thin among many of our local animal care and rescue groups. Now is a wonderful time to make a donation to help curb overpopulation of cats and dogs. Several local groups and veterinarians are offering spay and neuter events in the coming months. They offer low-cost services, and help for rescue groups and those caring for feral cat colonies.

reasons to spay your pets

Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), based in Ukiah, is an all-volunteer organization established in 1991, with the sole purpose of offering affordable spay/neuter services for dogs and cats. Check out the SNAP website to learn more, including the Myths and Facts about spaying your pet. Donate Now to SNAP

In Lake County, SPCA Of Lake County has partnered with several organizations to reduce the number of unwanted and homeless animals. In 2019, they completed 432 spay and neuters. SPCA of Lake County is working on a goal of 600 for 2020! They are most proud of establishing a Public Assistance Fund. Recognizing that many people struggle financially, and are often forced to choose between needed medical care for their beloved pet and their obligations for food and rent, this fund assists clients with paying for their veterinary care. Donate to SPCA of Lake County.

February is Pet Dental Health MonthFebruary is also National Pet Dental Health Month!
Dental health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health, and dental problems can cause, or be caused by, other health problems. Your pet’s teeth and gums should be checked at least once a year by your veterinarian to check for early signs of a problem and to keep your pet’s mouth healthy. Follow your vet’s recommendations, and check out the supply of dental health products ranging from chews to toothpaste! (Dr. Sheldon Rubin, speaking for the American Veterinary Medical Association, gives easy, step-by-step instructions on how to teach a dog or cat to accept a daily tooth brushing.)

Learn more about pet dental care at American Veterinary Medical Association’s website.

February is also the kick-off to Spring at Rainbow Ag! The chicks are in the stores and the annual Poultry Party is scheduled for March 14. Save on all poultry supplies and feed, and get a great deal on chicks! There will be live seminars in each store, and some “eggstra” fun events!

Spring also brings all the fun outdoor chores … you know, weed trimming, pruning, rototilling and planting! Make it easy, with the right power tools from Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda and more! The new battery-powered string trimmers are ready to work when you are, and check out the new mowers, clippers and saws, too! Don’t know what will work best for your situation? Come on in to any of the Rainbow, America’s Country Store locations in Middletown, Lakeport and Ukiah, and talk to one of the outdoor power specialists. They can help you chose exactly the right tools, whether you own a 1000 acres, or a condo!
