Rainbow Wags April 2020

Safety first at Rainbow Ag

As our community shelters in place, face masks, social distancing and sanitizer have all become routine. As an essential business, all Rainbow locations are open and offering both in-store and curbside service. Call and place your order over the phone, pay with your credit card, and in 30 minutes we will meet you at curbside and deliver your items to your vehicle. You don’t even have to get out of the car! (Don’t forget to mention this month’s subscriber coupon code, “April Wags,” to get your FREE 14 oz Natural Balance Treats added to your order of $25 or more). Or, come in to the store  – the staff is smiling under those face masks! Carts and cashier stations are sanitized after every use, plexiglass shields are in place at the counters, and customer flow has been rearranged to promote distancing. There are even “touchless” payment systems.

The parts and service departments are open, to help keep you and your equipment working, and the gardening and irrigation departments have what you need to finish up those backyard projects. Have questions about Outdoor Power Equipment? Give us a call at 707 462 2404 and ask to speak to a OPE Specialist. You can even purchase a trimmer or brush cutter over the phone, and pick it up curbside, ready to go to work.

Gardening has become very popular! If you are planting a vegetable garden, beautifying your yard or just cleaning up around the ranch, Rainbow can help. Check out the healthy local plant starts from Blue Sky Nursery in Redwood Valley, and don’t forget the irrigation! Rainbow’s trained staff can recommend the best irrigation products to keep everything growing and flowering. 1/2 inch drip tube is on sale at $7.99 for a 100 foot role. Just ask and we can add it to your order.

Spring brings warmer weather, and that makes the grass grow! Now is the time to create a defensible space around your home and outbuildings, to be ready for wildfire season. Preparedness makes all the difference in protecting your home from fire. Trim brush and grass away from buildings, cut limbs that hang near the roof, move woodpiles away from walls and clean dry leaves out of gutters.

Our local animal shelters and rescue groups are hurting as they continue to work tirelessly to care for homeless and stray animals, find homes and fosters and pay for emergency medical care. Most of their fundraisers have been canceled or postponed, and as pet-owners are out of work and struggling to pay for necessities, the rescue groups are seeing more requests for food and veterinary assistance. Can you help? There are donation bins in the Rainbow stores for the shelters and rescue groups in our communities. Please consider purchasing an extra can of pet food or two, treats or toys, leashes and collars or pet beds to put in the donation bins. You can also make a monetary donation directly into the rescue or shelter’s account. Just ask the cashier. Easy to do and feels good too!

It is also Kitten Season! During high kitten season in the spring and summer, it’s not unusual to discover a nest of unattended kittens or a single kitten seemingly abandoned by the mother. You want to help, right? Before jumping to the rescue, consider these recommendations, courtesy of the Mendocino County Animal Care Services department.

Cheerful Chicks are peeping away in the stores! While we do have baby chicks, supplies have been a little erratic lately, so give us a call to find out how many and what types of poultry is available. Raising chickens is very popular – what other pet can entertain and feed you? Rainbow has everything you need to get started with your own backyard flock so you can smile and enjoy your eggs.
