Willits Frontier Days is the longest running continuous Rodeo in California! Started in 1926, and taking place over the Independence Day weekend, Frontier Days hosts a variety of events including Bronc and Bull Riding, Beef Barbecue, CCPRA Professional Rodeo, a Country Music Rodeola, Parade, Gymkhana, Junior Rodeo and local Team Roping and Barrel Racing! As we head into the warmer weather of Summer, many of us are hauling our horses for longer trips and spending more time in the saddle. The combination of heat and stress can cause our horses problems, from dehydration, heat stress or colic. Being aware of the transition to hot weather, and make a few adjustments to ease your horse into the season. Conditioning and nutrition are good places to start, along with providing salt and electrolytes. Horses lose both salt and electrolytes when they sweat, but salt should be provided every day, while electrolytes should be fed as needed – such as after intense work stress or sweating.
