Acorns and dogs don’t mix! This time of year the oak trees are dropping their acorns and leaves, and both are toxic to dogs. Chewing on acorns or eating the leaves can cause stomach discomfort, vomiting or diarrhea and in some cases (small dogs who have eaten a lot of acorns) kidney damage. Signs of serious illness often includes loss of appetite, increased thirst and lethargy. Contaminated water such a acorns and leaves soaking in a water bowl can also be poisonous. If your dog has eaten acorns, it is best to check with your veterinarian.
