News from SAFER

SAFER horse rescue has maintained a relationship with Rainbow Ag stores for many years – and we are so very grateful to donators! Through SAFER, they help folks in Mendocino and Lake Counties feed and care for horses and other large animal pets during tough times. So we were in position to respond to the Fires – both in 2015 and 2017. In the wake of the 2017 fires, SAFER horse rescue took up the task of supporting displaced people with animals after the Fairgrounds was emptied. We set up and dispensed feed and equipment from our Depot in Redwood Valley for 2 1/2 months until most of the goods were gone. We bought more hay to stock and it flew out the door! We helped rehome displaced horses as well. So many lost their precious animal family members – we want to ensure that the survivors stay with their families or find safe new homes.

Stormy, a fire survivor, has a new homeAnd we are still on the job! SAFER is grateful to Rainbow Ag, Woodside Community Foundation and now the Community Foundation of Mendocino County, for funding our voucher programs. We will continue to give out vouchers to Rainbow Ag, Tractor Supply and other businesses that will discount their goods to Fire survivors – making Mendocino stronger by keeping the animal care part of our economy healthy! Here is a very grateful survivor named Stormy. He was burned out and needed a new home. SAFER foster Pam Respini, who helped run our Fire Depot in Redwood Valley has found him a new home – hers! Stormy’s troubles are over.

SAFER horse rescue commits to the recovery effort as long as we have donated funds to distribute. We will fund vouchers for folks with any kind of animal so please come forward and help others to do so. Our goal is to help support the critters and their care-takers. We do not share any information without your permission.
