Tools and Tips from Rainbow Ag

image An Ounce of Prevention

When you buy a piece of equipment, you want it to work. You rely on it, this time and every time. When it comes to small equipment breakdowns, trimmers, splitters and chain saws will run better, and longer, if you maintain them properly.

When you buy an expensive piece of equipment like a tractor or harvester, your big investment in dollars keeps you interested in regular and timely maintenance. But, if they're going to be ready for the job time after time, small equipment requires regular, seasonal maintenance.

To help you keep field operations running smoothly, Rainbow is offering this short list of maintenance reminders:

  • Change the oil and filters every 50-100 hours
  • Check, then tighten, any loose bolts, nuts and screws
  • Check and adjust tension on belts or chain
  • Check pull cords for fraying
  • Use the recommended fuel mix
  • Clean the unit of debris after each use
Doing periodic maintenance won't keep a hard-working machine running forever, but it will keep it on the job longer, saving you money in down time and replacement costs. When its time for a tune-up, Rainbow has an excellent service department. Our team will check spark plugs, sharpen blades, lubricate bearings and replace worn belts.

At Rainbow, we take pride in the skill of our mechanics. We train them well and we think they help you be more effective. If you want professional advice about setting up a high performance maintenance program, call our service departments. In Ukiah, 462-2404; in Calistoga, at 942-4566.

Jim Mayfield"Experts with a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction."

Around Rainbow, this isn't just a slogan, it's our way of doing business. To achieve our goal, we depend on a trained staff who are committed to their job, top quality products to serve the exact needs of the vineyard industry and a commitment to our customers' satisfaction.

Is Rainbow really meeting the needs of the North Coast vineyard industry? We decided to ask.

Recently, we invited a number of wine grape growers to a customer focus meeting. We hired an outside facilitator, locked the growers together in a room and then Rainbow personnel left the room.

The facilitator asked the people present what they thought Rainbow was doing well and where they saw room to improve Rainbow's services. The most common positive response, "Rainbow has a great staff to work with." The most common negative, "Do a better job answering the parts department phone in Ukiah." I'll use this forum to share additional comments with you as space allows.

We at Rainbow recognize that you have many options when it comes to selecting a supplier. If you have something you'd like us to know, please call me personally. I want to know how you think we are doing. If there is something our staff has done well, I'd like to know it. If there is some service we could improve, I'd like to know that too. You feedback is important. Please drop me a note or give me a call. My staff and I are working hard to earn your business, every day.

Bob Mitrovich: Ag Experience, Serious Service

Born and raised in Calistoga, Bob Mitrovich grew up around farming and vineyards.
