team of draft horses under a signThough we are heading into the end of summer, here in northern California the hot dry weather will last at least a couple more months. It is peak wildfire season and everyone – even if you live in “town” – needs to be prepared for the threat of a wildfire and possible evacuation. Livestock and horse owners require an even more extensive evacuation plan that those with just small pets. It is important to develop a plan specifically for your animals and situation – everyone’s situation is different! To help create your plan, check out this 10-Point checklist from UC Davis. For general information on creating an evacuation plan, go to www.readyforwildfire.org/Wildfire-Action-Plan/, or to learn more about building a defensible space around your home and outbuildings, check out www.firewise.org. Then head into Rainbow Ag for all your fire-protection needs. Rainbow has outdoor power equipment to help you mow, trim and saw away flammable brush and grass, home fire pumps, fire hose, McLeod Fire Tools and heavy-duty garden hoses. Being prepared for a wildfire, no matter where you live, can mean the difference between life and death for you, your family and your animals.
